Whitsun, or White Sunday is another name for Pentecost when the Church celebrates the coming of the promised Holy Spirit to inspire and enthuse the Church… it was in a sense the Church’s Birthday… and we celebrate the ongoing life of the Church this week – 31st May.
Tuesday 2nd – 3pm – Bible Study – A Zoom through the Book of Joshua. If you’d like to join in this… have a read over Joshua Chapter 1, and let Donald know you’d like to join in and he’ll send you the link. All welcome…and it’s about learning and sharing together – so you don’t need expert Biblical knowledge! If getting online on Zoom is a problem, you can join via telephone – Donald can give you the number and access code to key in.
Wednesday 3rd – 10.30am – Coffee and Chat… (make your own coffee!) – again contact Donald for login details.
Sunday 7th 11am – As well as the video worship to view… on 7th we will also have an opportunity to gather virtually for Communion via Zoom.
How about some zoom conversations as we read and reflect upon the book of Joshua together… interested – fuller details at the ‘Bible Bits’ page.
The Lord’s Prayer
Pray the Lord’s prayer in whatever language and form is most familiar to you…
Then pray it again in a different form…
You will find several including this one:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours. Now and for ever. Amen.

A song: How Great Thou art
A Thought:
How great Thou art… if we believe that… it’s worth sharing isn’t it?
A Prayer:
Lord God, How great thou art! Thank you that your greatness touches and shapes my living. Help me to share that good news with just one other person. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Challenge:
Take up the challenge you have just prayed…
As in Sundays past we are invited to light a candle and to pray at 7pm
Living God and gracious Father,
Protect and shield us.
Living God, protect and shield
All whom we love,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Living God, your Son now sits in your presence
And shares in your glory and honour.
We thank you for the promise
That his presence shall be renewed for us,
Through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Living God, we thank you that Jesus prayed for us
And that he continues to intercede for us.
We thank you that he continues to pray
For us and for our protection,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Living God, we pray for the life of the world
We thank you for all those who,in these days,
Strive to protect and shield us.
Renew them in heart and soul, and mind and strength,Through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Living God, renew us we pray and renew the life of the world.
For you so loved the world that you gave your Son
That we might share in the life of the world to come.
Hear our prayer, now and always,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A song: Amazing Grace
https://vimeo.com/420342183
A Thought:
A key feature of the ThyKingdomCome movement is to pray for others who do not already know God’s love, amazing grace and inspiration in their lives.
Think of 5 such people, and pray that they may come to know God who was revealed to humanity in the prophets, the Scriptures and supremely in Jesus.
A Prayer:
Lord God, I thank you for the awareness I have of your love, and I pray for others especially for… that they may be open to your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Challenge:
Perhaps you could invite them to Church tomorrow… maybe a message, email or tweet… “I’ve been appreciating the worship at www.aksm.org.uk… would you like to ‘come to Church’ tomorrow?
Day 2 of 10 #ThyKingdomCome
“He who sings, prays twice” – attributed to St Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, 354-430 AD
On this day after Ascension, the words of the great Wesley hymn, Rejoice the Lord is king are worthy of our prayerful reflection. You can listen and watch it being sung in St Albans Cathedral at the link below.
Rejoice! the Lord is King, Your Lord and King adore! Rejoice, give thanks and sing, And triumph evermore. Lift up your heart, Lift up your voice! Rejoice, again I say, rejoice! His kingdom cannot fail, He rules o'er earth and heaven; The keys of death and hell Are to our Jesus given: Lift up your heart, Lift up your voice! Rejoice, again I say, rejoice! He sits at God’s right hand Till all his foes submit, and bow to his command, and fall before his feet: Lift up your heart, Lift up your voice! Rejoice, again I say, rejoice! Rejoice in glorious hope! Our Lord and judge shall come And take His servants up To their eternal home: We then shall hear the archangel’s voice; the trump of God shall sound: Rejoice! Charles Wesley, 1707 - 1788
